Director of the African Leadership Centre (ALC)
Shuvai Busuman Nyoni has been an Alumna of the African Leadership Centre, having been part of the 2009-2010 cohort of the Centre’s Peace and Security Fellowship programme for African Women. Part of the ALC’s strategic objective is to have its Alumni form part of the senior leadership of the organization.
Shuvai Nyoni has been working as the Director of Interventions at the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation in South Africa. She has worked at the Centre in various capacities since 2012. From October 2015 to January 2016, she served as Gender Specialist for the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Assessment Mission to South Sudan. She also served as Gender Advisor to the African Union Commission of Inquiry on South Sudan from May to October 2014.
Through her work Shuvai has engaged with issues pertaining to post-conflict reconstruction, governance, social and economic justice, transitional justice, reconciliation, and national and community healing. Shuvai has worked with a variety of stakeholders and beneficiaries including policy makers, civil society practitioners, academics, community-based organisations and political actors.
She holds a Bachelor of Social Science (BSocSci) degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics and a Master of Social Science (MSocSci) with a specialization in International Relations, both from the University of Cape Town.
